I am the mother of a 13 year old boy, Alex, with Down Syndrome. Raising a child with special needs is both challenging and rewarding, but unless you have experienced it first hand, it is hard to fathom the minute by minute, hour by hour and day by day situations that arise. Some of the stories I have shared with people have brought tears of laughter as well as sorrow, so I decided to share parts of my journey, maybe to enlighten, maybe as a little bit of self therapy. Hope you enjoy!

This morning Alex decided to have a little fashion show while he was deciding on what to wear to school. He must have come down 8 or 9 different times with a new outfit on each time. Wow, he has some fashion sense that bubby of mine - sleeveless sweater vest with shorts a tie and baseball hat, sweatpants, white t-shirt, a black tuxedo jacket and green crocs, bathing suit bottoms, long sleeve shirt, visor, and a winter scarf around his neck - those are a few of my favorites. He wanted to know which was my favorite, uhhhh, how do I pick? I was able to remind him he had gym today so he came back down in gym shorts, a t-shirt and a sweatshirt (phew!) He certainly is original.....

Hi Leanne - it's CJ from Ally's work. I'm totally computer challenged so hopefully i'm posting this correctly. I read your blog and exactly what Ally said might happen did, i smiled, laughed, and cryed. You're a very strong women with a very special and amazing child. We could all learn from Alex and be much smarter in the end. I will continue to read and follow your blog, keeping you and your entire family in my thoughts. CJ
